7. What is a head brace for and does it hurt?

In some cases it is necessary to move the back teeth backwards to help us gain space so that the front teeth can be straightened. A headbrace helps us to do this.

The morning after the headbrace is worn for the first time, some slight tenderness of the teeth to which it is attached may occur. This wears off very quickly and is a good sign that the teeth are starting to move in the right direction.

Headbraces are worn in the evening and whilst asleep in bed - not at school unless you want to speed up your treatment dramatically!
