4. When the fixed brace has been fitted will it hurt?

It is normal for the teeth to become a little sensitive for a day or two after the brace is fitted as the teeth start to move. If the teeth are uncomfortable, a paracetamol tablet can be taken, paying special attention to the instructions on the bottle. This sensitivity seems to last, at the most, about two days and then subsides.

Sometimes, as the teeth start to straighten, the end of the wire that is moving them may seem to become longer and may cause problems with the cheeks or gum. If this happens, please contact the surgery and we will arrange to snip the end of the wire off.
